Background

Thanks to the efforts of Sandra Frye Patrick, Jeannie Lay Nicklos, and Sandy Shell Hattos we really had a great time in 2005. As Sandy explained...

"Since we didn't have STNY in 2004 due being able to get together with 4 graduating years, I think those who had planned to gather STNY site details sort of forgot. Plus there were a few hurricanes that messed with us. In June of 2004 lots of my family came to help my Mom celebrate her 80th birthday. Jeanie Lay Nicklos and Sandy Shell Hatos came too. While visiting with family at the Holiday Inn Express, Sandy said this would be great for 2005. It is close to two airports, I95, the Space Center, the beach, and several theme parks. Since Phil had suggested Brevard County and a place he had recently visited (which one of the hurricanes demolished), I mentioned the hotel to him. Since the two of us were in agreement and no one else offered any suggestions. That's where we ended up. The restaurant was voted on when Jeanie and Sandy came to Cocoa in April and we looked for a Saturday night dining place. There weren't too many options for 30 people. The only other place we even checked out was The Lobster Shanty on A1A in south Cocoa Beach. The room was not that great. So the 3 of us went with the Black Tulip which as been around for years.

I took it upon myself to arrange for dinner on Friday night so we could stick around and visit. This meal and the soft drinks, wine, and snacks were paid out of the registration moneys.

That about sums it up. "

Comments

Sandra,
Just a quick note to thank you once again for organizing our get together. IT was certainly worth the trip, for me anyway. (And Bill came all the way from Spain!)
I am looking forward to the next STNY!
Keep on keeping on,
Bill Woehr

Thank you so much for all you do!! We are still away for our vacation--we'll be home by Monday. This year was really fun and the hotel worked out so well. I loved not having the special room and all could gather near the food and you knew when someone was there everytime you walked by.
See you next year!!
Carolyn Griffiths
P. S. we enjoyed spending a lot of time with you and John.

HHS60  Same Time Next Year Reunion 2005

Our STNY weekend (June 24/26, 2005) is getting closer.  If you haven’t made your hotel reservations, please do so soon.  The location selected is the Cocoa Holiday Inn Express, immediately to the west of the  Interstate 95 and State Road 520 interchange (Exit 201) in Cocoa. The phone number for reservations is 321-635-9975. TO OBTAIN OUR QUOTED RATE, PLEASE ASK FOR” THE HIALEAH HIGH CLASS OF ‘60” GROUP RATE. Also mention Philip Giberson's name. The group rate is $99.99 for a regular room (either one king or 2 double beds). Each room comes with a microwave and small refrigerator. Their concierge room is available for use as our hospitality suite. It is small but opens out to the pool. They offer a complimentary breakfast.

The registration fee for the weekend is $25 per person, which should be payable to: HHS ‘60 Same Time Next Year.  Send to Sandra Frye Patrick, 2816 Tulane Drive, Cocoa, FL 32926, as soon as possible.

After you check in, check out the hospitality suite.  That’s where we’ll meet up and get caught up on all that’s happened since we met last.  There will be some snacks and soft drinks on hand.  Bring you favorite beverage of choice.

Our Saturday night dinner will be at the Black Tulip Restaurant in Cocoa Village (about 4.5 miles due east of our hotel) at 6:00 p.m. There will be one bill for the group, so bring cash to cover the cost.  For $25 (plus tax) per person you can choose one of these five entrées -- sirloin steak, grilled salmon, chicken Florentine, shrimp tortellini, or their specialty, duck. For $5 more you can choose filet mignon or baked stuffed salmon. A dessert is included.  There will be a cash bar for wine, beer, etc.

Here are some web addresses for you to checking out.

Phil Giberson is planning to take the Kennedy Space Center tour.  Check out their web site.  There are two types of tickets -- $29.15 includes one Imax movie, the bus tour, and entrance to the visitors’ center.  For $34.45 you can get all the previous items plus an additional Imax movie and admission to the Astronaut Hall of Fame.  Those are the senior prices (in case you bring a senior).

For those beach lovers, head east on State Road 520 to reach Cocoa Beach.  To reach Port Canaveral or Cape Canaveral, head north on I95 to State Road 528 (Exit 205) then go east.  They have charter fishing boats at the Port.  Here’s a web site for fishing.

Bring your thoughts and ideas for STNY 2006 with you to Cocoa.  Where have you been that you think would be a great place for us to reunion/communion.  Think BIG.  We haven't met in Hialeah yet, so why do we have to stay in Florida?  Think about it.

Hope I’ve covered everything.  If not, please ask and maybe I’ll have an answer.  See you soon.
