Bob Shalley was taking care of business and unable to attend. I’ve already sent my CD to John Burkowski. Hope the other photographers will be getting their pictures to John Burkowski so he can do his magic on the HHS60 web site he created. Keep checking the web page for updates. As folks began trickling in to the Waterfront Inn on Friday night, we gathered in the hospitality room to relived our youth and tell our tales. Everything you might want is close by. Some of us walked next door to Cody’s Original Roadhouse for dinner. There was a band playing at the Redsauce Restaurant just another block from the hotel. Most of us went back to the hospitality room and continued reminiscing and waiting for Jack Whicker to arrive. He had car trouble on the way down from Atlanta and we wanted to wait for him. I must have talked a lot because my throat was sore when we finally left and went to our rooms. As usual, Saturday morning after breakfast, we dispersed to play golf, go shopping, take a tour of housing opportunities, etc. Arriving back just in time to get ready for our group photo shoot in front of the hotel. Saturday evening we dined at the Redsauce Restaurant and continued to chat and catch up with events since last year. After dinner, Linda and Dick (or Tom as Linda calls him) Corbitt provided the game of the evening. There were 12 wrapped packages and they cost $5 each. When the 12 packages had been purchased they were offered up for sale or trade. Then they were opened. There was $25 in one package and a whoopee cushion worth 1⁄2 the cash in another. The other packages had various gifts. Marguerite Geraghty Desbrow got the whoopee cushion and the money. Sandra Frye Patrick got the $25. We all had a great time and thank Linda and Dick (the auctioneer) for all their efforts. Marguerite Geraghty Desbrow told us about Operation Shoebox USA which provides shoeboxes filled with goodies from home to our solders far from home. She had flags with yellow ribbons on them and large yellow ribbons suitable for hanging outside to raise money for Operation Shoebox. She volunteers for this group in memory of her son who died recently. Individuals in our group donated $225. Attached is the letter I received acknowledging the donation. After breakfast on Sunday morning, we retired to the hospitality room for our usual meeting to decide where we will be next year. Phil Giberson began the meeting by reading an email from Lilibet Sosa, one of the students given support from the Jeff Giordano Scholarship Fund. She sounds like a highly motivated individual. The balance was $2,475. Our group voted to contribute $500 from our monies. Anyone can make a contribution. Contributions are tax deductible and checks should be made out to: "College Assistance Program, Inc." with a notation in the memo portion of the check: "HHS '60 - Jeff Giordano Fund" -- Donations should be sent to: Philip Giberson; 570 Glen Way; Miami Springs, FL 33166. Checks received will be consolidated and deposited with Robert Weintraub, Development Officer, Dade Community Foundation, who administers the C.A.P., Inc fund. The donor will subsequently receive from C.A.P., Inc. an acknowledgement of their tax-deductable scholarship donation. We then got down to the business of deciding where we want to go for next year. It seems that the consensus was to come back to The Villages. So mark you 2012 calendars for Friday, June 22 through Sunday, June 24. That is the weekend after Father’s Day. Phil Giberson told us about his activities in the restoration of the Glenn Curtis Mansion in Miami Springs. You can find more information about gifting opportunities and information of all the accomplishments of Mr. Curtiss at www.curtissmansion.com. To seek, to find, to share.Sandra Frye Patrick
